Every year, The NEWS introduces the latest heating equipment that is available for the upcoming winter season. The intent is to help contractors prepare for this busy period by doing the research that will help them to distinguish between brands.

Like last year, this year’s Heating Showcase is split into two parts — residential and commercial. The residential and light commercial information is published in this issue, and the commercial equipment will be featured in the Oct. 7 issue. Included in the coverage is feature-specific information about each individual product, submitted by the manufacturers.

The showcase features the product grid, which includes technical facts such as unit tonnage, refrigerant type, efficiency rating, and cooling capacity. The accompanying photo feature provides more in-depth information on the features of each individual unit and also includes technical support information from the manufacturer. The manufacturers provided all of the data included in the product grid, as well as in the photo feature. Therefore, any questions should be directed to them via the contact information provided in the photo feature section.

Special installation requirements: These air-source units are engineered to be installed outdoors. These outdoor units require sufficient space to ensure proper airflow, operation, and maintenance/service access. When installing outdoor units, allowable service, inlet, outlet, and space requirements must be considered. If the installation space is too tight around the outdoor units, then the system will not operate properly, and it will be difficult to service.

Extruded engagement holes help prevent screws from stripping out when the guards are reinstalled.

Noise-reduction features: Two-stage operation ensures the system is not always running at its highest level, providing sound levels as low as 66 dBA. Sound is further reduced with a unique SilentDrive™ system that incorporates a swept wing fan, compressor sound enclosure, and composite base to reduce sounds levels. When used with the AVC constant CFM air handler, slow blower ramping at the beginning and end of each cycle contributes to the overall quiet nature of the system.

IAQ equipment supported: A complete range of system-matched IAQ accessories including humidifiers, dehumidifiers, air filters, and ultraviolet air purifiers are available.

Additional features: The system will provide efficient cooling down to a 35°F outdoor temperature without additional accessories or modification. The nature of a ceiling cassette installation requires contractors to work overhead. The temporary hanging hooks, captive screws, and larger wrench turning radius on piping all make this work easier. The liquid and gas pipe positions are reversed on the current model, allowing contractors more space for easier servicing of the gas pipe.

Noise-reduction features: With the introduction of a 3D-turbo fan, the system runs at sound levels as low as 25 dBA. This is as quiet as a human whisper. The result is a more comfortable air conditioning experience, improved by the elimination of unwanted background noise.

IAQ equipment supported: Designed for top-of-the-line air filtration. With easy-to-clean, washable, 10-year filters with multi-stage allergen filtration, the system removes particulates and contaminants from the air to provide occupants with high IAQ. With its ductless design, multiple vane options, and continuous fan operation, the result is a balanced airflow and better air circulation.

Additional features: The SLZ-KF brings comfort to any home or light commercial application. With four-way vane control, occupants can select two-, three- or four-way airflow patterns. Each vane can also be adjusted individually. The optional 3D i-see Sensor™, which calculates the room occupancy rate, adjusts conditioning accordingly with direct or indirect airflow settings and dozens of different combinations for comfort. The result is improved energy savings and even temperature distribution.

Warranty information: Parts are warrantied for five years and seven years on the compressor to the original owner of the system. If the system is installed in a residential single-family home and registered within 90 days of installation, the parts and compressor will be warrantied for 10 years. If the system is installed by a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor, the parts and compressor limited warranty duration is 12 years.

Special installation requirements: The SLZ-KF fits neatly into a drop-ceiling panel space and only requires about nine inches of vertical space to install. A minimum of 18 inches of above-ceiling horizontal-clearance space is required for unit service.

Serviceability features: This unit’s maintenance-centered design enhances serviceability, which promotes optimal performance and long life. It offers a hinged control service access door and pocket handles that facilitate access to the compressor and other components.
